The COO is a key member of the HSS senior leadership team and will exercise management and strategic leadership over HSS' day-to-day operations. The COO will be directly responsible for customer operational functions including Healthcare Security, Aviation and Government Security, Medical Equipment Management, Security Systems Integration and other product and services designed to create safe environments. This position is a highly visible, forward-thinking, results-oriented leader. The accountability of this position is to provide the leadership and vision necessary to ensure HSS has the proper operational controls, work flows, reporting procedures, systems, and people in place to improve the operational efficiency, effectiveness and strategic position of HSS, and ultimately, the value of the organization.

In partnership with the CEO and the HSS senior leadership team, this position will participate in the general management of the company, help establish a climate of professional excellence and be a champion of the HSS culture. This position reports to the CEO and will engage a wide range of leaders and teams to deliver financial results, operating efficiency and customer value.


  • Oversees daily operations of the company and the work of divisional executives.

  • Motivates and leads a high-performance management team.

  • Participates in developing and implementing a strategic plan that supports the organization's vision and strategic goals; translates the strategic plan to teammates to garner support.

  • In partnership with other senior leaders, executes multiple high impact initiatives to achieve overall organizational goals; modifies the execution of the strategic plan in response to changing internal and external factors.

  • Sets and achieves goals for performance and growth consistent with HSS's strategic plan.

  • Partners closely with other senior leaders to design, execute and assess progress toward HSS's integrated healthcare solutions strategies.

  • Cultivates strong consulting capabilities within HSS operations.

  • Responsible for the regular and ongoing measurement and effectiveness of operational programs.

  • Executes multiple high impact initiatives to achieve overall organizational goals.

  • Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on all operational divisions -- keeping the CEO, and other senior leaders, fully informed in a timely and transparent way of the performance of the day-to-day operations of HSS.

  • Collaboratively advocates and partners with others on the senior leadership team to develop, implement and continually improve support services including strategic talent management programs, processes and functions, finance, information technology, legal and risk.

  • Develops and implements plans to improve the operational infrastructure of systems, policies, processes, and personnel in alignment with the objectives of our organization.

  • Manages relationship and perception of HSS with customers -- positively represents the organization and establishes credibility throughout our diverse customer base.

  • Attends meetings of the Board of Directors and its various Committees and presents information consistent with Board responsibilities.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to achieving HSS's goals with respect to risk mitigation and compliance.

  • Plays a lead role in evaluating acquisition opportunities and blending acquired functions and personnel into HSS operations.


  • Helps HSS achieve its new customer acquisition and existing customer expansion goals.

  • Identifies opportunities for new value creation.

  • Possesses a passion to help team members and clients.

  • Is a visible and positive presence to front-line staff and management in the field; values and solicits front-line input.

  • Keeps abreast of the business, regulatory and economic environment in which the company, its customers and stakeholders operate.

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant subject

  • Minimum of 10 years of successful operational area oversight at the highest levels of a corporation

  • Experience managing centralized and decentralized operational functions

  • Demonstrated track record of driving large-scale operational change successfully

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful oversight of a consulting operation

  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to influence, direct and coach others throughout the business.

  • Skill in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities; developing implementing and communicating policies and procedures for a large organization; implementing fiscal management policies; analyzing data, making sound recommendations and adopting effective causes of action; working persuasively and tactfully with supervisors and line staff; supervision of specialized professional staff; communicating effectively both in oral and written form.

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries, complaints and negotiations

  • Strong customer service aptitude and sincere willingness to serve and do right by teammates and customers alike

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern management and administration; governmental policy, financial analysis; project management; personnel management; and business development.

  • Demonstrated ability to function collaboratively in a multi-entity partnership environment and impact outcomes using influencing skills

  • Writing / presentation skills and computer literacy -- proficient using standard office software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and well-versed in using an ERP/CRM system


This is a full-time position. Typical workweeks exceed the standard 40 hours. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. Environment may be fast paced and pressure filled. Frequent travel is outside the local area and overnight. Occasional international travel will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently engages in mental concentration, analysis, and formulation. While visiting client locations, individual may occasionally be exposed to changes in temperatures, humidity, chemicals, bodily fluids, and other conditions commonly found in customer environments. Able to drive a vehicle.
